Augusta Romaškevičiūtė

Lithuanian violist Augusta Romaskeviciute is a passionate orchestra and chamber musician who has performed in numerous concert venues in Europe, USA and Brasil. She is a member of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, Germany.

Having been fascinated with orchestral music since an early age, she collaborated with orchestras such as Konzerthaus Berlin, Staatsoper Hamburg, Orquestra Gulbenkian Lisbon, Staatsoper Berlin, the Radio orchestras of Cologne and Leipzig among others.
Another great point of interest and endless inspiration for Augusta is chamber music repertoire. She regularly performs in different chamber music settings, most recent performances include venues like “Carpe Artem” festival Maribor (Slovenia), Schumannfest Dusseldorf (Germany) as well as National Kaunas Philharmonic and Klaipeda Concert Hall (Lithuania). She is the violist of “Linus” String Quartet.
Augusta enjoys artistic freedom creating her own chamber music programs: “Viola, instrument with a human voice”, “From Kaunas to Odessa”, “Music is a women”, “Small talks”. Collaboration with lithuanian composers, among them G. Kuprevicius, Ž. Martinaityte, R. Vitkauskaite , has given her a chance to perform premiers of their viola compositions internationaly.

She is the founder of the social-musical initiative “Music for all” in her home country that enables access to live classical music performances and supports young artists. The project is funded by Rotary Club Vilnius.

Born in Vilnius, Lithuania, Augusta’s first viola teacher was Petras Radzevičius. She continued her musical path in Germany, where she studied with Hartmut Rohde at the University of Arts Berlin, with Tatjana Masurenko in Music and Theather Academy Leipzig, and her postgraduate diploma she received in the class of Wolfram Christ, solo viola of Berliner Philharmoniker. Her musical vision was also strongly influenced by work with other renowned violists such as Kim Kashkashian, Jean Sulem, Thomas Riebl, Danusha Waskiewicz, as well as members of Quartetti Artemis, Alban Berg and Vogler. She has been awarded the President Prize at the Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Competition as well as scholarships by Lithuanian Arts Council, Oscar and Vera Ritter, P. Hindemith, Hertie and DOMS foundations.
